Chapters Bookstore is pleased to present a poetry reading in celebration of National Poetry Month and Pittsfield Poetry Week featuring Karen Chase and Cody Walker. Host Vivian Dorsel is the Editor and publisher of the literary annual upstreet.
Karen Chase ran the Camel River Writing Center in Lenox from 1991 to 2004. She has taught at The Frost Place and has been a Rockefeller Bellagio Fellow. Her work has appeared in the Norton anthologies, Billy Collins’s Poetry 180, The New Yorker, The Gettysburg Review, The Yale Review, and the first four issues of upstreet. Her book of poems, Kazimierz Square, appeared in 2000, and a second poetry collection, Bear, came out in 2008. Land of Stone, a nonfiction book about her work as poet in residence at a psychiatric hospital, was published by Wayne State University Press in 2007. She lives in Lenox with her husband, painter Paul Graubard.
Cody Walker lives in Lenox , Massachusetts , where he serves as the 2009 Amy Clampitt Resident Fellow. His first poetry collection, Shuffle and Breakdown, was published by The Waywiser Press in 2008. A longtime writer-in-residence in Seattle Arts & Lectures' Writers in the Schools program, he was elected Seattle Poet Populist in 2007. His work appears in The Best American Poetry, Slate, Parnassus , Light, Shenandoah, and elsewhere. He blogs for The Kenyon Review.
